Jack would often visit and host outings at the lower springs back in the early 60's. This is one of his favorite receipts. He would prepare these at home and then re-heat at the campsite.

Saline Valley Jacks weenie recipes
2 packages of franks
Cut lengthwise, then in half (each frank becomes 4 pieces
Beer to just cover them in the pot
Medium size bottle of ketchup
1 yellow onion, diced
Salt & pepper

Slow simmer for 2-3 hours, until franks are soft and curled a bit.

5 Easy Camping Receipes

Take salmon fillet...cut them into steaks.  Melt butter in a skillet...cook 5-7 min on each side until cooked...season heavily with Weber's Garlic & Herb Seasoning. About 3 min before finished...add a couple big scoops of mango salsa w/red pepper over top of steaks..remove from heat and cover for about 5 min. OMG...its delicious.  Add in a sweet potato..super healthy meal.  

When you're camping, it's important to come equipped with some of these 5 easy camping recipes. Some of the best meals can be made on a campfire or on a small camping stove. With a little preparation before you head out, and with basic cooking equipment, you can be making delicious homemade meals in no time. 
  1. Campfire-Seared Salmon Easy camping recipes don't have to be boring. Place a salmon steak on a sheet of foil and curl the foil around the salmon to create a bowl under the salmon. Sprinkle three cloves of garlic on the salmon steak and spritz it with the juice of one lemon. Add salt and fresh-cracked ground pepper. Cover the packet lightly with a sheet of foil and crimp the edges to create a package. Place the steak on the grill and cook for 15-30 minutes. 
  2. Campfire Spaghetti To keep camp cooking simple, consider easy camping recipes that require some cooking ahead of time. Before embarking on your camping trip, brown a pound of ground beef with some sauteed onions and garlic. Drain the beef and pour it into a zip-top bag. Place in your camping cooler. Once you're camping, boil a quart of water in a pan on a camp stove or campfire. Add a pinch of salt, and once boiling, boil a package of spaghetti noodles. In another pot, pour in a jar of spaghetti sauce and dump in the ground beef. Heat the sauce and meat through, and serve over the drained spaghetti noodles and sprinkle a small amount of Parmasean cheese on top to serve.
  3. Hearty Breakfast Getting your belly full of a hearty breakfast with these easy camping recipes is simple. Start out with a hot skillet and griddle on a campfire or camp stove. Cut three English muffins in half, and place face down on the griddle. Add a few teaspoons of oil to the skillet, and crack three eggs and put them in the skillet. As the eggs are finished, add a slice of cheese and place them on the English muffin.
  4. Hiking Tacos Before going camping, bake 2-3 chicken breasts and dice into small pieces. Once you're camping, put the chicken into 4-5 tortillas. Top with diced tomatoes, salsa and lettuce. Wrap the tacos tightly in foil and place them in a small camping cooler. This is one of the easy camping recipes that can keep you full during a long hike.
  5. Banana Camping Sundae What about easy camping recipes for dessert? Take three bananas on a piece of foil. Sprinkle chocolate chips, nuts and marshmallows on top. Fold up the foil and place the packet on the campfire or camp stove. Cook until the bananas are soft. Serve directly out of the foil packet for a sweet and filling dessert.

  1. Kabobs are just one of many easy but impressive things to cook over a campfire. Marinate your meat and mushrooms for extra flavor and to keep them moist while cooking over the fire. Take your kabob skewer and pierce through your bite size meat, mushrooms and your favorite vegetables. Now cook your kabob over the camp fire until done.
  2. Italian Sausages with peppers are also easy and impressive to cook over a campfire. You will need a cast iron skillet for this food to cook properly. Slice your sausages and peppers thinly and add your preferred seasoning. Put the sausage and pepper mix you prepared into your cast iron skillet. Place your skillet over your campfire and cook until the sausages are done and the peppers are tender.
  3. Pizza cooked over a campfire can be one of the most delicious foods you can taste. You will need a campfire stove for this meal, but it is still one of the most easy but impressive things to cook over a campfire. Roll out some aluminum foil, oil the foil really good with extra virgin olive oil, and began to form the pizza crust. After placing out your crust you need to add your pizza sauce and preferred pizza toppings, such as cheese, sausage and peppers. Slowly place the foil and pizza on your cooking stove over the campfire to begin cooking the pizza. Now watch your pizza and look for the cheese and toppings to melt together before the crust begins to burn. An excellent trick for this is to place some foil over the pizza top to trap the heat and cook the pizza top evenly with the crust.

  10. Corn: Corn on the cob stays fresh for a few days, as long as you leave it in the husk. you can boil in a dutch over, or cook on the grill or in the coals. To grill or bury, remove the cornsilk, but leave the husk intact. Soak the corn in water for 30 minutes, then place on the grill or on hot coals to cook.
